Joint opposition presidential candidate Iveta Radičová is “standing by the people”, said representatives of more than two dozen non-governmental organizations which publicly declared their support for the candidate on March 30, the SITA newswire reported.
According to Šarlota Pufflerová from the Citizen and Democracy civic association, 28 NGOs and around one hundred representatives of the non-profit sector as well as public personalities have declared their support for Radičová in the second round of the presidential election.
She gained the support from organizations engaged in human rights protection, social services, education and environment protection, as well as citizen associations from Bratislava and other regions across Slovakia, such as Ekopolis, the Cultural Association of Slovak Roma, Profesionálne Ženy (Professional Women), Možnosť voľby (Pro-Choice), S.T.O.K.A., Trucspherique, the Association of Foster Families and the Queer Leaders Forum, supported by the Open Society Foundation.
“Iveta Radičová has always presented herself best by her work,” Pufflerová was quoted by SITA as saying. “While she worked in research, the non-governmental sector, and later in government, she always had in mind the application of real principles of equality and human dignity. Therefore NGOs, their representatives and personalities from social and cultural life appeal to citizens to choose a president who they can believe and who understands them.”
