MANY hotels and other tourist industry facilities charge different prices for Slovaks and foreigners. As a rule, foreign tourists have paid more than locals, despite laws that forbid such double pricing.
But with the country's EU entry, inspectors and other authorities insist that the double pricing must end because it is unfair and discriminates against foreigners.
Slovakia could also lose foreign tourists for good, should it continue charging foreigners more than locals, the Slovak daily Pravda wrote.
"Guests from western Europe are offended by such practices and they justly complain about them," said Beáta Lukáčová from the state-run Tourism Agency.
"Higher prices can only be charged for higher quality service, and the customer must be informed beforehand of the service's costs," added Dušana Krkošová from the Slovak trade inspection authority.
