ONE IN THREE marriages in Slovakia are formalized with the bride already pregnant, say Slovak demographers after analyzing the country's birth rate.
Although pregnancy is still among the most common reasons for getting married, the SME daily wrote, the number of such marriages is dropping. According to Viera Pilinská from the VDC demographic research center, as recently as 10 years ago, half of all marriages in Slovakia were due to pregnancy.
Last year, 27,885 couples were married in Slovakia, with 9,300 of them expecting children.
