The Názory polling agency suggests that if presidential elections were held now, the Party of Civic Understanding's Rudolf Schuster would win.
Respondents had to choose between seven "hot" candidates or propose their own. Only 1.5% came up with different candidate.
Schuster would collect 31.3% of votes, followed by former Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar with 12.1%. Constitutional Court Chief Justice Milan Čič would gain 9.4%, followed by International Policy Institute chairwoman Magda Vášáryová (8.7%), former president Michal Kováč (6.2%), former Vodohospodárska Výstavba boss Julius Binder (5.8%) and Slovak Democratic Coalition deputy Juraj Švec (3.5%).
So far, Rudolf Schuster's candidacy has been confirmed. Vášáryová is still undecided, but her political past is the least controversial of all the candidates considered so far. Michal Kováč enjoys the support of several non-governmental organizations and artists. Mečiar has announced that he would not run for the presidency, while Čič also has withdrawn from the race.
