LEADERS of three parliamentary opposition parties failed to agree on whether they will nominate one common presidential candidate in elections next year.
Mikuláš Dzurinda of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Pavol Hrušovský of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Pál Csáky of the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) met on February 25 in Bratislava to discuss the latest development on the political scene.
One likely common candidate is the SDKÚ vice-chair Iveta Radičová.
Hrušovský said that the KDH would decide whether to support Radičová or its own candidate on March 1 at the party's republican council. The SMK republican council is to issue its final decision on March 28.
Slovakia will hold its presidential election in April 2009.
