Six opposition party chairmen and hundreds of other people gathered on Bratislava's SNP Square on to take part in a protest held under the slogan: 'We Like This Country, We Don't Like This Government', the TASR newswire wrote.
The event was organised by civil activist Alojz Hlina, along with Ondrej Dostál from the non-parliamentary Civic Conservative Party (OKS), youth organisations and other activist groups.
“I received an invitation from civil activists and non-governmental organisations and accepted gladly,” the chairman of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Mikuláš Dzurinda, told TASR. “The course on which this country is heading isn’t good and I’ve seen that for quite some time.”
“I’ve come here to demonstrate on behalf of the decent, responsible and competent politics that this country needs,” said Ján Figeľ, the chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH).
“Since [the general election in] 2006, Slovakia has been on the wrong track, with this nationalist-socialist government not competent enough to address the problems at hand,” stated the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) chairman, Pál Csáky, who appeared alongside the chairman of Most-Híd party, Béla Bugár.
“I think that we need to say that the emperor has no clothes, and that the voters have had the wool pulled over their eyes,” said Bugár.
Prime Minister Robert Fico's spokesperson Silvia Glendová declined to comment on the protest rally. TASR
