Extending the (Russian standard) broad-gauge railway from Čierna nad Tisou on the Slovak-Ukrainian border to Bratislava would cost Sk100 billion, said MP Štefan Kuzma of the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union.

Moreover, it will literally "transfer the gross domestic product of under-developed eastern Slovakia to Bratislava," Kuzma said at a news conference in Prešov on May 14.

"Spending Sk100 billion only to transport something to Bratislava instead of reloading it in the south-east of Slovakia means depriving this region of its only geographical advantage, which is often its inhabitants’ only source of income,” said Kuzma. “One thousand, four hundred jobs are at stake. Čierna nad Tisou should have been a logistical base for eastern European markets," Kuzma said.
