The three parliamentary opposition parties finally agreed on May 3 that they would not initiate a no-confidence vote in parliament against Health Minister Ivan Valentovič. The Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) came up with this plan, but Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) leader Mikuláš Dzurinda said that they would not opt for such an easy and populist path. However, he stressed that Mr. Valentovič had indeed done nothing during his term.
The SMK, SDKÚ and Christian Democrats (KDH) decided instead to tell Prime Minister Robert Fico not to keep postponing solutions to the healthcare crisis and to take action. SMK head Pál Csáky said it seems to him that neither the minister nor the government deals effectively with these problems.
