Vladimír Fruni, the former owner of the non-licensed deposit companies Horizont Slovakia and BMG Invest that collapsed amid wide-scale losses by Slovaks who had deposits with the companies, might be released on Wednesday, January 13, the SITA newswire wrote.
The Trenčín District Court will decide on his request for conditional release before he completes his eleven-and-a-half-year prison sentence. The Supreme Court had confirmed the sentence in May 2007.
Fruni has been behind bars for fraud, in which he bears co-responsibility for the failure to pay out more than Sk14 billion (€464,714,864) to clients of the bankrupt companies. Fruni asked for release at the end of last October after he served two-thirds of his sentence including pre-trial custody. The court asked the prison to assess Fruni's conduct in jail, SITA wrote.
