Panasonic's plant in Stará Ľubovňa (Prešov Region) on Thursday, January 20, announced plans to lay off 90 of its 515 staff.
Miroslav Sochuliak, speaking on behalf of the company, told the TASR newswire that the firm has been forced to reduce the number of staff due to a 50-percent decrease in orders this year. He added that most of those who will be laid off have been working in production, but six administrative employees will also lose their jobs.
Panasonic in Stará Ľubovňa is one of the biggest employers in the area. The company, which has its Slovak headquarters in Trstená (Žilina Region), is a producer of electronic components, and has been present on the Slovak market since 1997. The Stará Ľubovňa plant produces tuners for TV sets, wireless communication modules and control panels for industrial devices.
