The state contribution paid to parents who opt to stay home to take care of a child or children and fulfill all criteria for state assistance provided during parental leave should go up from the current €164.22 to €256 per month per child younger than two years as of 2010. This stems from an amendment to the Parental Contribution Act prepared by the Labour Ministry, which received the go-ahead from the Slovak cabinet on September 30, according to the SITA newswire.
The contribution for a child between 2 and 3 years of age will then drop to €164.22. Parents who were not employed before the birth of their child or worked only for a short period of time and failed to meet the terms for eligibility for maternity leave pay should receive the current benefit of €164.22, which is changed according to changes in Slovakia’s subsistence level. The introduction of this law will require expenditures of about €278.2 million in 2010. The sum of parental contribution went up from the current €158.67 to €164.22 as of September 1. SITA
