The salaries of nurses and midwives will be prevented from falling under a certain level according to the Act on Minimum Salary Claims of Nurses and Midwives approved by 141 members of Slovakia’s parliament on February 1, the TASR newswire reported.
The legislation will increase the salaries of nurses and midwives to between €640 and €928 per month, depending on experience, in April, TASR wrote and applies to all nurses and midwives, not only those working for state-run health-care facilities.
The law will directly cost the state an additional €77 million in 2012, TASR wrote, but added that the indirect cost is expected to reach €150 million as employers will need to make appropriate increases in the salaries of other employees performing work with comparable degrees of complexity and responsibility under similar working conditions.
