The draft bill on the Penal Code submitted to parliament by Slovak National Party (SNS), the junior member of ruling coalition, is primitive, according to independent deputy Frantisek Mikloško. Parliament rejected the draft on Tuesday, February 9, the SITA newswire wrote.
The SNS wanted to enact a felony of conspiring against the Slovak Republic as a criminal offence, including contesting the validity of the Benes Decrees, peace treaties or decrees based on which the borders of Slovakia are recognized, SITA wrote. SNS MPs proposed introduction of an up to five-year prison term for any person who violates Slovakia's constitutional order, territorial integrity, defence capability, or sovereignty.
On Wednesday, February 10, Slovak parliament also turned down a proposal submitted by deputies for the opposition Slovak Christian and Democratic Union, SDKÚ, Ivan Štefanec and Ivan Mikloš to decrease the excise tax on petrol by 3 eurocents per litre via an amendment to the law on excise
