DEPUTIES should have their own Code of Conduct that would regulate their behaviour in parliament and during meetings with lobbyists, new Speaker of Parliament Peter Pellegrini said.
“It might be useful to have a Code of Conduct that would detail the expected behaviour of lawmakers not only during voting but also when expressing themselves or in conflict of interest situations,” he said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. “Also, when meeting certain interest groups, for instance, lawmakers shouldn’t accept gifts.”
Accepting gifts or potential conflicts of interest are directed by the Act on Conflict of Interest, the Sme daily wrote on December 29. This law could have been amended several times already, but parliament failed to do so – although the draft is already prepared, according to Sme. Meeting with lobby groups should be organised according to a law on lobbying which has been proposed by the opposition Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) and Daniel Lipšic of opposition NOVA. However, parliament has not passed it so far, either, Sme wrote.
