Eva Stankovičová of the Union of Slovak Health Insurance Companies (ZZP) has said the organisation considers the Health Minister’s proposal to abolish and nationalize the assets of private health insurance companies to be bad for patients and the health service.
ZZP President Igor Dorčák warned that it could harm the health sector to upset the current arrangement.
"The system using only one health insurance company would disadvantage both patients health care providers,” he said. “Patients lose their choice, and the care they receive will be heavily influenced by the one health insurance company’s policy.”
Health Minister Ivan Valentovič said that the current system puts pressure on state health insurance companies and so the best way to save money would be to establish one health insurance company funded from public sources.
