Pay rises in health care sector are postponed

The Slovak Trade Union of Workers in Health Care and Social Services (SOZ) has still not achieved any agreement with representatives of teaching hospitals, as well as with smaller hospitals, the SITA newswire wrote.

This will further delay the scheduled 10 percent pay rise for medical workers and a 7 percent increase for non-medical staff that was supposed to take effect by October 1. But SOZ chairman Anton Szalay believes that salaries in the health care sector will still grow this year.

"We would like to see the raises as of November 1," he said.

The next round of negotiations between social partners will be held in the following days. The last pay rise in the health care sector was in February of this year. SITA
