PRIME Minister Iveta Radičová travelled to the United States in mid September for a week of official activities, including personal meetings with US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, participation in the Open Government Forum, an address to the UN General Assembly and a lecture at New York University.
Radičová and Obama met on September 20, prior to the forum held by the global Open Government Partnership, and agreed that transparency must be a key principle of governments.
In her address to the 66th General Assembly of the UN on September 24 Radičová stated: “We, the leaders in the United Nations, are expected to offer guidance and find solutions to the mounting challenges facing the international community today.” She also referred to comments made by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff who, in her opening speech, said that courage and sincerity are the main attributes that political leaders must demonstrate in the coming years.
