PRIME Minister Mulikáš Dzurinda received a cool welcome at an event commemorating the 65th anniversary of
the death of Slovak national rights activist Andrej Hlinka in the northern city of Ružomberok on August 17. In
his address to the crowd Dzurinda said: "Sixty-five years ago, Hlinka, a man and a politician who had to cope
with many humiliations in his life, died in Ruzomberok. However, the greatest injustice happened to him after
his death. A party, which bore his name, [Hlinka's Slovak People's Party - HSĽS], became a servant of the worst
dictatorship and its armed guards [Hlinka Guard - HG] an instrument of its venomous deeds." The crowd,
including supporters of the Slovak National Party and a group dressed as Hlinka Guards, jeered the prime
minister's address.
