THE POLISH government has closed tourist border crossings with the Czech Republic and Slovakia as part of its special security measures relating to the military conflict in Iraq.
The precaution came into effect as of 16:00 on March 21, sealing off tourist pathways as well as mountain and local border crossings at the southern border.
A spokesman for the Polish border service said officials hope the measure will reduce the possible threat of terrorism.
Polish authorities asked the Slovak and Czech governments to inform tourists and inhabitants of border areas to stop using these crossings. Any attempt to cross the border at these places will be deemed illegal until further notice.
