THE INTERNATIONAL Cultural Centre in Krakow has announced a summer programme on preserving the heritage of post-Communist Europe to be held in Krakow from July 10-24, 2008. The two-week programme is organised jointly with the Institut für den Donauraum und Mitteleuropa, in Vienna.
It welcomes graduate and advanced undergraduate students from Eastern and Central Europe to explore questions about Central Europe in the context of: continuity and change; collective memory; myths and identities in the political memory; communist material and immaterial legacies; the preservation of cultural heritage in urban centres; civil society community building and plurality (1968-2008).
Students will participate in two workshops, “The Memories of Prague 1968” and “Managing Communist Utopias: the Case of Nowa Huta”, in addition to lectures, seminars and panel discussions.
