SAME-SEX couples should not be allowed to raise children or marry, according to most of the respondents in a survey recently conducted by the Polis polling agency.
Polis asked questions pertaining to an eventual nationwide referendum on LGBTI rights and sex education in schools initiated by the Alliance for Family. Respondents were not asked whether they would cast their vote in the referendum, and moreover, if someone refused to answer, his or her vote was simply not counted, the Sme daily reported.
Almost 80 percent of the 1,128 respondents addressed said that marriage should be an exclusive bond between a man and a woman, while 65 percent were against adoptions of children by same-sex couples, according to SITA newswire.
Around 45 percent of those surveyed agreed with a proposal to give children the option not to attend classes on sex education or euthanasia in cases when they or their parents disagree with the content of the courses. Furthermore, 64 percent of people do not want non-traditional forms of relationships to enjoy the same protection and support as so-called traditional marriage.
Polis also asked about retail shops staying open on Sundays, which is not in the Alliance for Family referendum. In this case, more than 58 percent of respondents said that retail shops should be banned from opening on Sundays, SITA reported.
