If parliamentary elections in Slovakia were held in January, the new Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party would finish third. This is based on the results of a January opinion poll carried out by MVK agency, the SITA newswire reported.
All parties currently in parliamentary would return and so would the new party established by renegades from the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) who formed the Most-Híd party last year.
The results suggest that Smer party remains the strongest in Slovakia with 42 percent support with the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKU) finishing second but with only 9.4 percent of those polled. SaS followed with 9.2 percent. The current parliamentary opposition parties, the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and SMK enjoyed 8.9 percent and 6.7 percent support, respectively. Most –Hid party came in next with 6.4 percent.
The two other ruling coalition members, the Slovak National Party (SNS) and the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), received 6 percent and 5.4 percent of votes, respectively.
The MVK carried out the survey between January 13 and 18 on a representative sample of 1,038 respondents. SITA
