A NEW poll on voter support in Slovakia shows the opposition Smer party on 21.6 percent, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) of Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda on 14.5 percent, and the co-ruling Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) on 14.3 percent.
The poll was conducted by the NOC agency between March 27 and April 2 on a sample of 1,158 people.
In places four to six were the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) of former prime minister Vladimír Mečiar (12.5 percent), and the two other ruling parties - the Christian Democrat, or KDH (9.8 percent) and the New Citizen's Alliance, or ANO (8.1 percent). The Communist Party of Slovakia, the smallest opposition party, was seventh with 7.7 percent.
Compared with February's NOC poll, the KSS registered the largest fall in support, of 2 percentage points, followed by the SDKÚ (1.5 points), ANO (1 point), and Smer (0.9 of one percent).
By contrast, support for the SMK rose by 3.2 points, the KDH by 1 point, and the HZDS by 0.1 of one percent.
