Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák will at last submit a proposal to President Ivan Gašparovič for appointing Lucia Kurilovská to become the new rector of the Police Academy.
The minister was postponing the decision because of Gašparovič’s objections to the nomination. However, these reservations persist and all facts so far indicate that the president will not appoint Kurilovská, the Sme daily wrote in its October 3 issue. Kurilovská, a professor at the Bratislava law faculty and advisor to Justice Minister Tomáš Borec, was named by Kaliňák as the sole apt candidate to replace Václav Krajník, who was arrested amid allegations of corruption connected with accepting students to the academy. The top job at the academy has been vacant since June 2012.
Kaliňák confirmed Kurilovská as his only candidate and added he was waiting for her to agree to take the post. Kurilovská told Sme she would agree to take the post, despite all the complications. Gašparovič has not commented on the case so far. His office said they have not received the official nomination yet. Gašparovič is said to have reservations against Kurilovská, after she criticised his decision not to appoint Jozef Čentéš as general prosecutor.
