FOUR presidential candidates attended the debate at the private Pan-European
University held on October 10 to discuss their steps if elected to the post. Candidate of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) Pavol Hrušovský was missing, explaining that he has to wait for official confirmation of his candidacy by his party council, the Sme daily reported.
Ján Čarnogurský, Peter Osuský, Andrej Kiska and Radoslav Procházka debated in front of about 100 students for two hours. It was partially confrontational and partially friendly, answering various students’ questions, but without a clear winner, Sme wrote.
The candidates, for example, discussed the solutions to current problems in the judiciary. Procházka said he would try to find way how to weaken current Supreme Court President Štefan Harabin with the help of the Judicial Council. Čarnogurský said that the judiciary has a candidate whom it in fact generated, while Osuský answered the question with using a quote of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin that “cadres decide everything”, adding that in there is no non-violent solution in Harabin’s case, as reported by Sme.
