Election results: Čaputová and Šefčovič will go head-to-head in the second round

These are the preliminary results of the first round of Slovakia's presidential election.

After all the votes have been counted, the results confirm the ranking of candidates as suggested in the opinion polls:

Zuzana Čaputová 40.6% (870,415 votes)

Maroš Šefčovič 18.7% (400,379)

Štefan Harabin 14.4% (307,823)

Marian Kotleba 10.4% (222,935)

František Mikloško 5.7% (122,916)

Béla Bugár 3.2% (66,667)

Milan Krajniak 2.8% (59,464)

Eduard Chmelár 2.7% (58,965)

The results show the turnout at 48.7 percent.

Zuzana Čaputová gave a press briefing after the Focus poll results were published and thanked people for their trust, “although I still want to wait for the real election results” before celebrating.

She also admitted she would prefer Maroš Šefčovič to Stefan Harabin as her competitor in the run-off round in two weeks’ time, because even though they have their differences, “he is a politician who sticks with facts”.

At the end of the moratorium, the private TV station Markíza published the results of an exclusive poll by the Focus polling agency that was conducted on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning.

The poll results show the standing of candidates as follows:

Zuzana Čaputová 42%
Maroš Šefčovič 17.8%
Štefan Harabin 13.7%
Marian Kotleba 9.0%
František Mikloško 6.4%
Milan Krajniak 4.0%
Béla Bugár 3:8%
Eduard Chmelár 2.7%

All the other candidates scored less than one percent in the poll.

Meanwhile, the TA3 news channel published the results of the AKO polling agency poll that was conducted on March 15. The polls show 46.3 percent support for Zuzana Čaputová, 15.2 percent for Maroš Šefčovič, and 11.7 percent for Štefan Harabin.
