The price of agricultural products fell in September for the first time this year, recording a drop of 0.6 percent year-to-year, the Statistics Office announced on October 27.
This development was mainly due to a fall in vegetable prices of 5 percent year-to-year. The price of animal products rose by 3.2 percent year-to-year, however. The biggest year-to-year fall in vegetable prices was recorded in sugar beet - 16.1 percent. Potatoes fell by 11.1 percent, grain prices fell by 10.4 percent, while tobacco prices were down 1.7 percent. Conversely, the price of seeds and other products of oil-producing plants increased by 15.4 percent, while prices of pulses were up 13 percent.
Animal products rose in price year-to-year mainly due to the high price of live fish - 22.9 percent, sheep products - 12 percent, pigs - 5.6 percent, unprocessed cows' milk - 4 percent, poultry - 1.4 percent, and hens' eggs - 0.8 percent year-to-year. Conversely, the price of honey fell by 1.2 percent, while the price of beef fell by 0.6 percent. Over the first nine months of this year, the price of agricultural products went up by an average of 11.3 percent year-to-year, with vegetable prices rising by 21.3 percent y-o-y and prices of animal products up 7.4 percent.
