The Pravda daily reported on October 25 that the exorbitant cost of speeding up highway construction in Slovakia makes it impossible to do so.
According to the Transport Ministry, building 151 kilometres of highway in six years through public and private partnerships would cost Sk170-250 billion. The Finance Ministry puts the amount at Sk400 billion. This works out to approximately Sk3,000-5,000 per person.
The ministries are refusing to comment on exact figures, however, so as to prevent from influencing potential tenders. SITA
