Despite the fact that almost two months have passed since the Government decided to bolster the development of Bratislava airport, the facility continues to "sleep in silence", Opposition SDKÚ-DS party vice-chairman and former transport minister Pavol Prokopovič said on March 11.
"Following the Government's decision on January 16, Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny (Smer-SD) promised that a business plan for the airport would be ready within a month," said Prokopovič.
According to the Transport, Post and Telecommunications Ministry, measures in strategic materials connected with the development of Bratislava airport are implemented according to the established time schedule, it was reported on March 11.
"The Government approved two strategic materials for development of the air transport and Bratislava airport, and they have been implemented on schedule,“ MDPT spokesman Marian Jánošík told the TASR newswire. He added that regarding construction of a new terminal, there is a tender planned for a supplier in June, and in November implementation should begin and completion set for 2010.
Moreover, Bratislava airport (BTS) spokesperson Dana Madunická also reacted to Prokopovič's criticism.
"In the first half of 2008, several projects will be completed that will directly increase the quality and extent of passenger services," she said. "It will mainly concern expansion of ground parking and a building on the grassy area between departures and arrivals halls that will be used by travel agencies and new commercial ventures," she told SLOVAKIA.
