The lawsuit against the Paška brothers (Maroš, Branislav and Martin) nephews of ex-parliamentary speaker, Pavol Paška of the ruling Smer party, has been returned to the Košice I district court, the Sme daily wrote on July 19.
The courts returned the original case file requesting that the investigator collect additional evidence. Both the district and regional court insisted that the right of defence owed to the charged men had been violated. Spokesperson for the Košice Regional Court, Marcela Gálová, said in January, that the police officer failed to notify the charged men in writing about the increased severity of the deed for which they were being prosecuted.
The brothers stand accused of hooliganism and complicity in bodily harm, dating back to October 2015. They allegedly provoked an accidental fight with strangers which involved four people, two men and two women. They beat one of the men and a woman.
Maroš and Branislav face two to five years in prison and Martin Paška a lighter sentence of six months to three years. After the high publicity of the case, Martin Paška had to leave his top position of technical manager at the Housing Company of the city of Košice, Branislav lost his job as the head of public procurement at Košice University Hospital and Maroš was sacked from the police, Sme wrote.
