“We meet here in front of the US Embassy to express a clear protest against the considered war on Syria which has no moral, legal or practical political base,” co-organiser Eduard Chmelár said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. He added that the culprit responsible for using chemical weapons remains unknown and that no proof of the official Syrian regime’s guilt has been published. Chmelár said that even if the Syrian government used chemical weapons, thus violating international law, by bypassing the UN Security Council the US plans to violate international law as well, adding that all diplomatic means should be applied first.

He was joined by other speakers who also expressed their opposition to military intervention, and pointed to the example of international intervention in Iraq in 2003 which ended with massive damage, according to them. Finally, an appeal against military intervention in Syria was read and participants of the demonstration paid tribute to the 100,000 deceased Syrians by lighting candles.
