Public officials face grilling, fines for not reporting property or income

Slovak public officials are obliged to file tax and property returns, but still seem to have problems doing so. Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Ivetta Macejková failed to include in her property declaration her income from teaching at a university. Now she will have to explain to parliament’s conflict of interest committee why she failed to do so, the Sme daily wrote on Wednesday, August 1.

The committee has also opened proceedings against other constitutional officials. Among them is ex-director of Slovak Television (STV) Štefan Nižňanský, who faces fine equal to three months’ salary because of his failure to file a property statement on time.
