More than 10,000 people have signed the petition backing the presidential candidacy of SDKÚ party vice-chairman Iveta Radičová, the TASR newswire was told on July 10.
"There are more sheets on my table, but they haven't been sorted yet. Not all the signatures are in line with the requirements of the law," said the opposition candidate, who will stand for election in 2009.
The 51-year-old professor of sociology has been collecting signatures from the public during her trips through the country, meeting and talking to the locals. These sojourns, which she says aren't campaigning, will continue throughout the summer. Radičová also said that she is organising the meetings as a personal activity, and praised the spontaneous help that she has received. TASR
