Based on its completed inquiries, the state operated rail company ŽSR on March 30 rejected any degree of blame for an accident that took place on February 21 in which 12 people aboard a bus were killed when the vehicle collided with a regional train on a rail crossing near Polomka in Banská Bystrica region, according to the TASR newswire.
After a month-long internal probe, ŽSR spokeswoman Martina Pavlíková told TASR that the driver of the 46-tonne train observed all rail traffic rules and did not contribute to the tragedy in any way.
Despite the investigation finding that the crossing was in compliance with the regulations at the time of the accident, ŽSR decided to now install signal lights at the crossing because of the extent of the tragedy.
According to her statement, ŽSR put the total damage to the train from the accident at €138,000 and the damage to the bus set at €16,500. TASR
