Here in Canada, comedian Frank Schuster, the latter partner of the long-standing, well-known and popular comedy duo, Wayne and Schuster, recently passed away at the age of 85.
Whether Slovakia's President Rudolf Schuster is related to Canadian comedian Frank Schuster or not, the Slovak President's recent awarding of the Pribinov Cross to Josef A. Mikuš is no joke ["Historians disgusted", News Briefs, Vol.8, No.2, January 21 - 27]. In fact, it is anything but a laughing matter.
The Slovak government's decision to honour with a medal a deputy official of Slovakia's Nazi-puppet regime of World War II is both despicable and disgraceful. It is an insult to all of those who suffered and/or lost their lives under the evil scourge of Nazism, and adds yet another blemish to the Slovak Republic's already stained history and heritage.
The only way for Slovakia to restore its image abroad and at home would be for President Schuster to immediately rescind the undeserved Pribinov Cross award to Josef A. Mikuš and to repudiate this ex-Nazi once and for all.
