I am sure some of you have seen my bitter rants about the collapse of the Ryton plant in Coventry. But it's done and nothing can change that. I just want to let you know how to help protect the future of the Trnava plant. The great weakness of Ryton was not its efficiency or costs in the eyes of the PSA group, but that it only produced one line, the 206.
Rather than lobbying PSA to expand production of a single type (the 207 in this case), push PSA to prove their commitment to Slovakia by getting a different model line installed at Trnava. This would help secure a long term future, as we all know how fashions change, and the 207 won't be around and selling in large numbers forever.
And even when they do close down production, the remaining line will either soften the blow and buy you time to produce alternative employment. Or in the best case, an ongoing production plant could attract PSA towards replacing the tooling for a newer model.
