The fact the Slovakia might accede to the Schengen agreement in 2007, three years after their accession to the EU, is hidden in this article. This issue needs to be highlighted in the press and explained to people in Slovakia and other countries joining the EU because many people believe that, with accession to the EU, all border checks will immediately be demolished. This is not the case.
A Bratislavan who wishes to shop in Austria will not just be able to waltz in; they will still have to go through passport control.
This can have more deleterious effects when there are many places to cross the border illegally, such as in the Hight Tatras National Park. I promise you, the Polish Border Patrol will stop you.
