Reader feedback: Close everything on Sunday?

Font size: A - | A +

I wonder what difference it will make if the shops stay open on Sunday or not ["Church launches campaign, News Briefs, Vol.8, No.2, January 21 - 27].

If it's about banning labour on Sunday, how about cinemas, theatres, playgrounds, restaurants, bars, public transport, hospitals, police stations, power stations, etc.? Should all of these institutions be closed as well? Life is somewhat different these days, but Sunday is still considered a holiday by most people, regardless of whether retailers are willing to work or not. It's up to them and not any authority to say when and what hours shops should be open. Pure competition, in this case, is the simplest and most democratic way of dealing with this issue.
