Re: Designing golf's future for everyone, By Eric Smillie, Mar 8 - 14, Vol 10, No 9
I fully agree - new golfers in Slovakia need rather easy and not very expensive golf courses around large cities. Wide fairways, very few water hazards, tees with mats for beginners; simply, public courses that can be popular with a wide range of new golfers. Such a course should be very aesthetic but not stuffed with the latest high-tech facilities. We have to crack the concept of golf being an elite sport for a select few. The next step could be sophisticated championship courses for handicap players. But in the very beginning, easily accessible public courses must be established with training facilities especially for children and new golfers.
