Re: Young Slovaks prepared to move abroad, News survey, January 30-February 5, 2006

I recently rode the metro to my east London home during rush hour for the first time in over a year. About half of the passengers on two crowded trains were chatting away on their cell phones and, surprisingly, only one of them was speaking in English - and even he clearly wasn't a native speaker! That is a marked change from before. Many of the passengers were speaking Slavonic languages and reading Slavonic literature.

London is changing very rapidly. That doesn't bother me on the London side, but it might destabilise the labour supply in the countries these immigrants have come from.
