One difficulty in full integration of the Romany children is the learning style in Slovak schools. The system takes for granted everyday involvement of parents in helping their children with their homework; this applies especially to the first years at primary school.
The question of exclusion is not solely about Roma children, as the school system in essence applies more or less ability to schoolchildren in general, and a strict marking system is in place. Despite the big outcry about the segregated schools, at least for the moment the Roma children are not left out of the school system completely, and to my knowledge, Roma school assistants have been appointed in some schools.
