Nuclear energy is the cleanest and most efficient way of generating electricity in any meaningful quantity (with the possible exception of natural gas). The technology and know-how to operate reactors safely is now at a level where accidents such as Chernobyl are unlikely.
Three Mile Island was not even close to that disaster. So what is that, one major accident in 50 years of nuclear power generation?
How many people would have been killed by pollution from fossil-fuel burning power stations producing an equivalent amount of power?
