PRESIDENT Rudolf Schuster has said that he believes John Paul II will "find a way to meet up with Roma
representatives" during the pope's September 12 to 14 visit to Slovakia.
Roma organisations have recently asked the Pope through the media to "remove the curse" from their minority,
whose members are amongst the poorest and most socially deprived inhabitants in Slovakia and in other post
communist states.
According to Schuster, the Roma were a minority that would deserve to meet with the Pope.
The president also said during his August 18 visit to Rožňava, one of the three Slovak towns that John Paul II
will visit in September together with Bratislava and Banská Bystrica, that it would be "a good signal" if the Pope
met with representatives of non-Catholic denominations represented in Slovakia.
