Helping disadvantaged Roma families and collecting statistical data and information about their living standards in Slovakia would be a priority area of the co-operation, Botošová told the SITA newswire.

The director of the UNDP centre, Ben Slay, signed the agreement on behalf of the development body.

Both sides committed to co-operate on preparing and implementing projects aimed at improving the social and economic situation of the Roma - for example, by increasing employment, improving access to services and health care, and supporting education and housing.

"We are glad that in this way, the UNDP has an opportunity to provide its knowledge and experience about disadvantaged groups of people," Slay said.
