A singing talent contest called 'Roma Idol', based on the internationally popular 'Idol' television competitions, is being prepared by singer, musician and actress Dorota Nvotová in Spišský Hrhov in Prešov region, Nvotová told the TASR newswire on July 15.

The contest will last three days - between July 27 and 29. The organisers expect a high level of participation due to the large number of Roma villages in the area. The performances will be judged by a jury made up of popular Slovak rapper Rytmus, director Juraj Nvota, and Martin Višňovský from the alternative Prešov band Chiki Liki Tu-a. The event will be hosted by Nvotová herself.

There is no age limit for taking part in the contest and any Slovak citizen of Roma origin can enter. The contestants can choose their songs themselves and the winner will win a trip to Morocco. The aim of the contest is to lift Roma confidence and support young talent from the community along with competitiveness and ambition.

“I think that this project could be interesting thanks to the jury and thanks to a quite original idea that should have been introduced in Slovakia a long time ago,” said Nvotová. TASR
