Radio Slovakia International, the broadcaster’s sixth radio channel, can be currently tuned into only on the internet or via satellite.
“With such a step we want to address students and foreigners who live in Bratislava,” Vincent Štofaník of RTVS told the Trend weekly.
RTVS has already asked the Council for Broadcasting and Re-transmission (RVR) for acquiring a licence for the terrestrial broadcast, RTVS head Václav Mika told Trend. He explained that they based the decision on an analysis that many foreigners, including guests and visitors, come to Bratislava every day.
“Thus we know that there will be a particular target group for the broadcast,” Mika added.
The broadcast should last from 18:00 to 6:00. It is not clear how much the launch will cost, Trend wrote.
Radio Slovakia International currently offers programmes in Slovak, English, German, Spanish, French, and Russian.
