IRISH low cost air carrier Ryanair sent a letter to Slovak PM Mikuláš Dzurinda and Transport Minister Pavel Prokopovič asking them to exclude Vienna Airport from the ongoing tender for the sale of Bratislava and Košice airports, the SME daily reported.
According to Ryanair, the Vienna Airport operator is competing for the Bratislava airport only to eliminate possible competition, which the geographically close Bratislava airport can represent.
"Bratislava airport has already managed to entice a considerable number of passengers from Vienna and in the future it may serve as a cheaper alternative to the expensive Vienna airport," wrote Ryanair.
"If Vienna airport manages to gain Bratislava and Košice airports, a monopoly would be created that would threaten the growth of Ryanair and other low cost air carriers in Slovakia," reads the Ryanair letter.
