Salaries up by 7.2 percent

Average salaries in the final quarter of 2007 reached Sk22,925 (€708), up 8 percent year-on-year, while real salaries rose by 4.5 percent, the Statistics Office reported on March 4.

The highest average salaries continued to be paid in financial mediation (Sk38,632). Higher-than-average salaries were also paid in electricity, gas and water supplies (Sk35,490), in public administration and defence (Sk31,236), in real estate and rentals (Sk29,110), in transport and communications (Sk24,746) and in mining and quarrying (Sk23,478). The lowest salaries were paid in hotels and restaurants (Sk16,485), the TASR wrote.

Salaries increased y-o-y in all categories, with the biggest increase coming in health care and social assistance (17.2 percent). They also rose faster than average in electricity, gas and water supplies (by 16.5 percent), in other social and personal services (by 10.7 percent), in agriculture and fishing (by 10.6 percent), in transport and communications (by 10.4 percent), in education (by 10 percent), in mining and quarrying (by 9.7 percent), and in public administration and defence (by 9.3 percent). Salaries rose least in manufacturing (by 4.5 percent), and in hotels and restaurants (by 5 percent).

Average monthly salaries increased year-on-year in budgetary organisations by 10.8 percent to Sk23,516, in allowance organisations by 9.1 percent to Sk20,072, in enterprises employing 20 people or more by 9 percent to Sk25,566, and in enterprises employing fewer than 19 people by 2.3 percent to Sk19,281. Real salaries, after consumer prices were taken into consideration, rose in all categories. In 2007, average salaries were up 7.2 percent, reaching Sk20,146. Real salaries increased by 4.3 percent.
