Outgoing Prime Minister Robert Fico was responsible for blocking the signing of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) even though he had the power to get it through parliament, said the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), the strongest party in the forthcoming centre-right government coalition.
Slovakia was supposed to sign the EFSF, designed to aid eurozone member states that may have financial troubles in the future, by Thursday, July 1. SDKÚ pointed out that Fico on one hand criticised the leaders of the centre-right coalition for their alleged unwillingness to discuss the matter but on the other it was Fico who refused to come to the Presidential Palace to speak to prime minister-designate Iveta Radičová on June 30.
Radičová at that meeting showed a readiness to discuss Slovakia's next moves when it comes to signing the framework agreement, the TASR newswire wrote. SDKÚ stresses that it will hold Fico responsible for any consequences.
