SIS ordered to pay damages for Lexa-era crime

On March 12, the Pravda daily reported that after thirteen years, the Slovak intelligence service - the SIS – has been ordered to pay damages to Robert Krajòák, a businessman from Bratislava. The SIS had used unlawful surveillance at the time Ivan Lexa was its director after Krajòák launched a media campaign in 1995 to hold a referendum in which people would be asked whether Vladimír Meèiar should be dismissed as prime minister. The Bratislava Regional Court concluded the case yesterday, awarding damages to Krajòák. The judge said the court dealt with the case in camera because a secret file formed part of the evidence. SITA
